The S55 twin-turbo engine powering the BMW M2C / M3 / M4 F8X has a horizontally mounted engine oil cooler positioned below the central radiator module. This standard engine oil cooler features a tube & fin core, which has a somewhat delicate construction and can therefore be damaged by road debris. It is therefore not uncommon for a sudden oil leak to occur at this position due to a small stone or other debris damaging the standard oil cooler, and this can be fatal for the engine.

With our performance oil cooler, we aim to offer a much more durable design and, of course, improve performance at the same time!

To obtain an accurate 3D model of the available space for designing our oil cooler, we performed a detailed 3D scan of the oil cooler's mounting area. With the help of this 3D scan model, we were able to design a new Bar & Plate performance oil cooler that improves both cooling and strength. Our design increases the cooling surface area by 20% and the core volume by a massive 63% compared to the standard oil cooler.
Our Bar & Plate core is much more robust, so it can handle potential road debris better and, moreover, offers better performance!
