The S55 turbo engine from the BMW F87 M2 C, F80 M3 and F82 F83 M4 uses plastic charge pipes on both the hot and cold sides. These pipes are a huge weak point on any tuned car, in some cases even on stock ones. The OE plastic pipes burst, causing boost leaks.
With our Performance Intercooler J-Pipe, we offer a solution to the problem while optimizing airflow!
To obtain an exact 3D model of the available space for our intercooler pipe, we created a detailed 3D scan of our M3 Competition engine bay. Using this 3D scan model, we were able to design a new 3.5″ (89 mm) cast J-pipe with a beautiful smooth flow. Most J-pipes on the market consist of bent 3″ pipes, which are cut and welded in several parts to achieve the J-shape. The OE J-pipe is 3.3″ (85 mm), so it is clear that a 3″ version is not ideal in terms of airflow, which was also confirmed in our Superflow Flow Bench.
Our final design is a super durable 3.5″ (89 mm) cast J-pipe that improves airflow. It has a free form with the same diameter all the way to the throttle body, which is "impossible" to achieve with a bent pipe. Our J-pipe has two methanol injection ports (1/8 -27 NPT), which are sealed with plugs upon delivery. A more durable silicone hose is also included, along with matte black hose clamps for a clean, discreet look. A new C-clip is included to attach the J-pipe to the throttle body, replacing the flimsy OE plastic retaining clip.
