Do88 Performance intercooler system, designed for easy drop-in fitment in your BMW M2C / M3 / M4 F8X.
The S55 turbocharged engine in the BMW M2C/M3/M4 F8X uses a water-cooled intercooler instead of a conventional air-cooled one. This intercooler is mounted at the top of the engine compartment. The coolant in this system has its own separate cooling circuit with two radiators connected in parallel and a pump. The larger of the two radiators is located in front of the central cooling module, the smaller one in front of the right wheel arch.
Reducing the water temperature in this circuit leads to improved intake air cooling (lower IAT). High-performance radiators in the charge air cooler system help maintain the lowest possible and most stable intake air temperatures under demanding driving conditions. During the development of all do88 products for the BMW F8X, it became clear how closely the engine's peak power is related to the intake air temperature (IAT).
The design of the do88 upgrade radiator began with a 3D scan of the front section of an M3 Competition's central cooling module to accurately map the available space and enlarge the core. The radiator sits in front of the central cooling module, and its frontal area, thickness, and fin specifications were optimized to maximize cooling performance while ensuring sufficient airflow to the radiators behind it.
The final design is a 32 mm thick single-row core with multi-channel tubes . The OE dual-pass flow layout was retained, so the coolant passes through the core twice before exiting the radiator. These improvements allowed for a 75% increase in core volume and a 48% increase in frontal area. In tests, the combined radiator upgrade resulted in a reduction of approximately 5°C in intake air temperature .
